The WEIGHT Conference

Bring The Weight Conference to your City!!!

It has been my pleasure to serve God & His people for almost 30 years in ministry. In November of 2015, God so graciously allowed me to release the book “I Come With Scars”. As a Counselor/Life Coach by trade, I have provided individual & family counseling sessions for many people throughout the years who have struggled with carrying excess emotional weight. Through this book, God allowed me to use Hebrews 12:1, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” to teach the masses about the effects of the “WEIGHT”. As Believers and even as a Minister, we’ve often taught and preached about the results of sin; however, very seldom deal with the WEIGHT. I am currently on a mission to assist men and women with learning how to lay aside the emotional WEIGHT of guilt, unforgiveness, jealousy, past hurts, negative life experiences, grief, animosity, resentment, and many other factors that so easily oppress them. Many don’t realize how hard they make it upon themselves to move forward to their individual places of God’s divine destiny because they are carrying all of that excessive WEIGHT.

May I introduce to you The WEIGHT Conference. This one-day conference is an opportunity for you to come together with other Believers for a moment of worship, fellowship, & Freedom. Learning how to LIVE FREE has been one of the greatest things since salvation that God has given to me. It is my pleasure to pass on this same FREEDOM to others who’ve been broken, hurt, battered, and abused. Truth is, we’ve all experienced some things in life that have caused a little emotional weight gain; however, there are some who are emotionally obese! It’s time to “Lay aside the WEIGHT and live FREE”.

Biography:

Latrese B. Carter is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia. She is a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and studied Criminal Justice & Political Science at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. After college, Latrese began her professional career as an advocate against Domestic Violence while working at the H.E.R. Shelter in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. While there, she conducted domestic violence/teen dating violence awareness workshops throughout the community and provided various services to women and their children who were victims of domestic violence, such as individual counseling, court advocacy services, and transitional services (after care). While at the H.E.R. Shelter, Latrese discovered her calling to the counseling field after witnessing that the victims that she had the opportunity to work with lacked three things: a high level of self-esteem, a positive self-image, and knowledge of self-worth. Since her early years in advocacy, Latrese has continued to serve victims of domestic violence by volunteering and donating to several agencies/non-profits that provide services to survivors of this silent killer; to include, My Help, My Hope Foundation, Women Called Moses, and the YWCA, just to name a few.

Latrese later transitioned into a career in which she could focus more on preventive services and began working as a therapeutic counselor at a foster care placing agency. She is now a Counselor/Life Coach by trade. In 2008, Latrese decided that she needed to continue her calling to help others to heal emotionally and to develop a positive self-image in a creative way. With that, she returned to her roots in the performing arts and founded the Gospel Theater Company, Faithwalk Productions. As a Playwright, Director, & Producer, Latrese used theater as a means of EDUTAINMENT. She used the stage to bring awareness to the community about various issues, such as homelessness, PTSD, domestic violence, addiction, and other underlying emotional factors that trap individuals emotionally, while utilizing her literary skills to send messages of hope, love, and transformation from victim to victor. Latrese’s talents have been showcased in many productions and her gifts of acting & singing have allowed her grace the stage with many in the entertainment field, to include performing for Star Jones at a luncheon sponsored by the Norfolk Chapter of the National Association of Professional Women and at the “Sistas In Step” Women’s Conference sponsored by the Women’s Economics Center at Norfolk State University with guest speaker Bishop Vashti McKenzie for Women’s History Month. She also performed her liberating, women’s empowering monologue, “If I’d Known Back Then What I Know Now”, at the Karen Clark-Sheard “Ladies First” Empowerment Summit as the opening act for National Recording Artist Vickie Winans at the Comedy Cafe’.  Her first Gospel stage play “Church Folk” debuted at Willett Hall Auditorium in June of 2009.

Latrese’s community service and involvement is just as diverse as her work history. She is the former Vice President of Vetshouse, Inc., a transitional housing program for homeless veterans in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.  She is also a former member of the Norfolk Public Schools EdCAT Team, Norfolk Court Services Unit Truancy Court Interdisciplinary Team, United Way Young Leader’s Society, 7Cities Interdenominational Youth Ministries Alliance, and Social Service Ministry of Zion Bethel UCC. She is also the former Director of Entertainment for King’s Highway Media Solutions, a Public Relations Firm based out of Woodbridge, Virginia.  Today, she spends her time providing life coaching services to individuals, couples, and families through her program “Life Lessons With Latrese”, writing, and designing amazing events! Her book, “I Come With Scars” was released in November of 2015. The book encourages the reader to lay aside the emotional weight (Hebrews 12:1) that has prevented the reader from moving forward in life in order to obtain all of the God-given promises that he or she was predestined to receive. Latrese continues to empower others through her “WEIGHT” Conference that is an extension of the book. In October 2020, she created a Vlog called “Work It Out Wednesday” in which she provides free advice to individuals in any type of ‘ship…relationship, friendship, courtship, kinship, or just ready to just ship. She is the co-author of Words of Wisdom for the Heart & Soul: Volume II and will be releasing her next book, “The Double Standard” in the Fall of 2024. Latrese is currently gearing up to release her next stage play “Living In Recovery” in May of 2024 and writing the screenplay “A Night To Remember: The Story of Job” for her first movie project to be released in 2026.
Latrese has received many awards & recognitions for her outstanding theatrical, musical, & lyrical performances. She received the “757 Gospel Music Award” for Playwright/Actress of the Year in 2013, received the Director/Producer of the Year “Woman In Arts” Award from the Southeastern Virginia Arts Association in February 2014, was nominated for the ACHI Playwright of the Year Award in June 2014 from ACHI Magazine, was featured in the “Blessed Life” Magazine’s Top 50 Phenomenal Women in Virginia, was nominated for the 2016 ACHI Award for Film/Theater and most recently won the 2017 “Feminine Freedom” Award for outstanding performances in Theater during Women’s History Month. In November 2022, Latrese was awarded the “Orator of the Year” Award from ACHI Magazine for her motivational speaking and in December 2023, she received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for her volunteer service to the community
